“Be Responsible – Drive Safe”
SamTech together with the Sustainability Network Road Safety Task group members have launched a Road Safety Campaign “Be Responsible- Drive Safe” in partnership with RTA and RoadSafetyUAE.com in May.
The Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network Road Safety Task Group consists of companies like Tristar, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, PepsiCo, ABB, SamTech Middle East, DP World, Zafco FZCO & Zdegree and Intercoil.
Zdegree, a subsidiary of Zafco FZCO which is an automotive service provider company, carried out inspections of non-commercial vehicles belonging to the network member company employees.
The objective of vehicle inspections is to highlight the significance of vehicle maintenance to ensure safety on the roads in order to prevent road accidents. The first round of the vehicle inspections from June 22 to 24 provided free vehicle check-ups for member company employees including those from The Blossom Nursery, Unilever, and PUMA Middle East.
During inspections, the technicians performed checks on head lights, tail lights, blinkers, tyre air pressure and tread depth, fluids and battery. Also they handed over RTA brochures on Road Safety to the vehicle owners. The future rounds of inspection will be carried out on September 15-17, October 13-15, November 10-12, December 15-17 2014 and January 12-14 2015.
Samir I. Abdul Hadi, President and CEO of SamTech stressed SamTech’s commitment as a Technology provider, to increase Road Safety. “It is in our hands to ensure awareness on this matter as members of the Road Safety Task group and Campaign, but I believe and take this subject very personal because we can deliver greater safety by implementing speed limiters, sensors and producing reports that help assess driver’s behavior. Then frequent irresponsible drivers are punished and out of the road for everyone else’s safety”
Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said that the campaign with its agenda on enhancing the reputation of Dubai as a safe and responsible business destination is the first of its kind campaign on road safety targeted at businesses and shows the commitment of the Sustainability Network members on road safety initiatives.
He further stressed on the importance of road safety for an individual whose life he said does not belong to him alone but also to his family and the community, therefore the campaign emphasizes on safe ways for the prevention of traffic accidents and saving of precious lives.
Dr. Rettab also highlighted the Centre for Responsible Business’s commitment to promote a culture of sustainable business amongst the business community.
